Why we chose Tararua Traditional

Why We Chose Tararua Traditional

When I started Manawatū Biltong, I wanted the flavours to reflect the region where the business was born.

As I thought about what should become our flagship flavour, I kept coming back to the Tararua Ranges. They are one of the most important natural landmarks connected to the Manawatū and help define the region's identity. Whether you're new to the area or have lived here your whole life, it's hard not to appreciate the presence of the ranges and the role they've played in shaping the landscape around us.

The Tararuas have stood overlooking the region for generations. They're a symbol of strength, resilience, and endurance—qualities that I think also describe traditional biltong. Traditional biltong doesn't rely on trends or complicated flavours. It's built on simple ingredients, time-tested methods, and a commitment to doing things properly.

That's why Tararua felt like the right name for our flagship product. It represents the Manawatū, honours one of the region's most iconic landmarks, and reflects the traditional approach we take to making our biltong.

For a flavour that sits at the heart of our range, there really wasn't a more fitting choice.
